Apply for a move
If you are already one of our tenants but would like to move home, there are a number of options open to you.
Transfers
If you want to move to another flat, you can apply to join our transfer list.
Please speak to your Housing Officer about how the process works, how long it might take and our criteria (such as being up to date with your rent and having been a tenant for one year).
They can provide you with an application form or you can download one here:
If you need a medical assessment form, you can download one here:
Mutual exchange
A mutual exchange involves two tenants swapping properties and is often quicker than waiting for a transfer.
Any housing association or council tenant with a secure, assured or fixed-term tenancy can exchange homes.
You can also check your local council’s website to see if they run their own mutual exchange scheme. See Kensington and Chelsea’s here https://www.rbkc.gov.uk/pdf/Mutual%20Exchange%20Scheme.pdfhttp://rbkc.gov.uk/housing/mutualexchange/
HomeSwapper, the UK’s leading mutual exchange service, has over 500,000 tenants across the country looking to swap council or housing association homes. WPH is partnered with HomeSwapper, so it is free for our tenants to use.
To register, visit www.homeswapper.co.uk, enter details of your home (adding photos will help) and what you’re looking for.
Remember: you will need to find a female tenant to swap with, as WPH is a housing association for women.
What next?
Once you’ve found someone to swap with, you need to arrange a property viewing between you.
If you are both happy to swap, you must ask permission from your respective landlords. You can call your Housing Officer, who will send you a short form to complete.
After receiving your application, landlords have 42 days to make a decision. They will check various details before agreeing to the exchange, including:
- the size and type of property you want to move to
- the size of the household you want to swap with
- that your rent account is clear and there is no possession order on your home
- the condition of your home
- any history of anti-social behaviour.
If the exchange is approved, you and the other tenant need to sign.
