Frequently Asked Questions
What type of housing do you provide?
We have General Needs and Sheltered accommodation available. General Needs are self-contained properties for single. Sheltered or Older Women’s Housing are self-contained properties for single women aged 60+ who can live independently, but may benefit from an on-site presence.
What type of property will I get?
As a housing provider dedicated for accommodating single women, we primarily provide self-contained studio accommodations. Therefore, you are likely to be offered a studio flat, typically located on the second floor or higher. You will be very unlikely to be offered a property on the ground floor as these are prioritised for individuals with accessibility needs.
Where do you have properties?
We have properties primarily located in West and North-West London. These areas are outlined below:
- Kensington & Chelsea
- Hammersmith & Fulham
- Ealing
- Wandsworth
- Harrow
- Westminster
- Camden
- Hillingdon
- Kingston upon Thames
You may be offered a property in any one of these areas. You must be willing to consider living in any area we have homes as you will not be able to express a clear preference. Please note, if you turn down an offer of accommodation, we will remove you from our waiting list.
Will I be guaranteed a property?
We have an overwhelming amount of applications each year, so we will be unable to guarantee that you will get a property with us if you are accepted on our waiting list.
We would encourage you to explore other options for housing provision in addition to your application. Should you be in need of urgent housing support, please contact your local authority.
How do you allocate properties?
We offer a small number of homes directly to women who have been accepted on our public waiting list each year. In addition, we hold nominations agreements with local authorities and external agencies who provide us nominations throughout our allocations process. If you wish to learn more about how we allocate properties, you can read our Allocations and Lettings Policy.
How do you prioritise the waiting list?
We prioritise applicants based on your current housing situation. This includes considering how long you have lived in unsuitable accommodation and how urgent your need is.
Will my priority change if my circumstances change
Yes. It is important that you update on your change in circumstances as this may affect your priority. Should we offer you a property, and your circumstances are not that on your application we may not be able to proceed with the offer.
Please note: should your circumstances worsen and you are in need for ugent support, please contact your local authority in the first instance.
What happens if I have a partner or child?
We only accommodate single women. Applications submitted with a partner or child will not be accepted.
What happens if I cannot attend the proposed viewing?
Please note, if you are unable to attend the viewing, we are unable to reschedule the appointment. This is due to the number of applicants on our waiting list in need of accommodation. If you do not attend the viewing, you will no longer be offered a property.
What type of tenancy will I be offered?
If you are successful and are offered a property with us at Women’s Pioneer, you will be given a Starter Tenancy for 12 months. Following this, provided you meet the terms of the agreement, you will receive an Assured Tenancy.
